The Barbados Senior Table Tennis Classics will get under way from tomorrow, Wednesday, March 25, at 7:30 p.m., at the Barbados Table Tennis Centre, John Beckles Drive, St. Michael, and will run until April.

The tournament, being held in association with the Ministry of Social Care, the National Assistance Board and the Barbados Table Tennis Association, is one of the new activities introduced as part of the National Senior Games.

According to Tournament Co-ordinator, David Bowen, the tournament “will provide the vehicle that will drive the resurgence of table tennis among the elderly”.

It will be played in two age categories – 45 to 49 and 50 and over. According to Mr. Bowen, the younger age group “will be the feeder group that will supply the emerging talent for future World Games”. However, the competition for the 45 to 49 age group will begin on April 8.

The fixtures for the 50 + age category will be done in two groups – A and B.
Participants in Group A are Carl Sealy, Wilmont Goddard, Rawle Husbands, Vere Ramsay, and Edwin Jordan. Those for Group B are Ronald Trotman, Gregory Prosper, Chris Banfield, Philip Tull, and Marguerita Felix.

The tournament will start with a round-robin format, with eight games being played on March 25, April 1 and April 8, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Semi-finals and finals for both age groups will take place on Wednesday, April 15, also starting at 7:30 p.m.
