The Government of Barbados adds its voice to the growing support for the Framework for the Elimination of Syrian Chemical Weapons agreed by the USA and the Russian Federation. In doing so, it fully associates itself with the recent statement issued by the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).

Barbados looks forward to concrete measures being undertaken by all concerned to give full effect to the agreement reached between the USA and the Russian Federation for Syria???s stockpile of chemical weapons to be brought under international control and destroyed.

As a State Party to the Chemical Weapons Convention, Barbados strongly condemns the use of chemical weapons and is of the firm view that perpetrators found using chemical weapons must be held fully accountable.

Barbados welcomes the recent call by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon for the international community to unite against the threat of chemical warfare.

Barbados remains concerned at the continuing bloodshed in Syria and is hopeful that this breakthrough will create the necessary momentum to achieve a lasting resolution to the Syrian crisis and an end to the suffering of the people of Syria.
