COVID-19 & post-hurricane updates with Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley and Minister of Health and Wellness, Lt. Col Jeffrey Bostic – July 23, 2021. (PMO)

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley has reminded Barbadians that as long as there are still people in isolation at Harrison’s Point, the country is still in the middle of the COVID-19 battle and all citizens must continue the practices that protect them.

Ms. Mottley, speaking during a press conference held to give updates on COVID-19 and post Hurricane Elsa Recovery at Ilaro Court yesterday, told the nation that despite what was being said internationally about mask wearing, it was still the best defence to protect against the spread of the coronavirus.

“And I want to use my voice this afternoon, therefore, to tell you that now is the time yet again, for us to make sure each and every day, that we do the simple things that will protect us. The simple things that will protect your family at home, your children, your elderly, parents, your elderly relations, your community, and it’s just too simple. I think the drill is there. Anything that we do over and over and over should become habit,” she underlined.

Ms. Mottley thanked Barbadians and, in particular, those working within the health sector and the other frontline workers at the airport and the seaport and elsewhere for continuing for the most part, to work with government in efforts to constrain and restrict the impact of COVID-19 on the nation.

In this vein, the Prime Minister reminded Barbadians that the future rests in their hands, adding that for every case of COVID-19 contracted, there was business interruption at the expense of economic activity.
