Barbados was well represented at the recently concluded 2011 Wider Caribbean LBS Protocol Collage Competition, organised by UNEP’s Caribbean Environment Programme (UNEP-CEP), placing third among entries from across the region.??
The collage was constructed by a team of students from Codrington Primary School, which comprised 14-year-olds Marius Bemhardt, Millie Prow and Bridget Masterton. The theme for the competition was A Future that is pollution Free – Join Hands to Protect our Caribbean Sea.
The prizes were announced at the official award ceremony on Friday, September 30, which took place during a five day Regional Expert Workshop on the Monitoring and Assessment of Marine Pollution, convened earlier this week in Montego Bay, under the Chairmanship of the Government of Jamaica through the National Environment and Planning Agency.????????
Bemhard Prow and Masterton qualified to represent Barbados after winning the national level of the collage competition with their entry that best illustrated how the coastline and marine environment could be protected from land-based sources of pollution. Their winning entry then advanced to be judged at the regional level where the team was awarded third place, US $500 and the opportunity for one representative and one chaperone to attend the award ceremony in Montego Bay.
