This country will participate in a meeting next week between the European Union (EU) and the African Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Ministers responsible for trade and the negotiation of economic partnership agreements (EPAs).

Senior Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Dame Billie Miller, who is the CARIFORUM Ministerial Spokesperson for ACP-EU negotiations and Permanent Secretary with responsibility for foreign trade, Samuel Chandler, will attend the November 8 to 9 meeting in Brussels.

On the Thursday, the ACP Ministers will meet with the World Trade Organisation’s (WTO) Director General, Pascal Lamy, while a meeting with the EC Commissioners for Trade and Development, Peter Mandelson and Louis Michael, will convene the following day.

During the discussions, these senior officials will be informed about the issues and concerns ACP countries continue to face in both the WTO and ACP-EU negotiations, and seek to find appropriate resolution of them.

In addition, the ACP Ministers are expected to consider and examine a comprehensive report on the status of the Doha Development Round of negotiations with the WTO.

The meeting with the EC Commissioners will be preceded by a two-day meeting of ACP Ministers at which they will share their experiences on the negotiations and seek to reach a common position on the issues of interest.
