Barbados has been encouraged to pursue the Russian tourist market and to advertise more aggressively in that country.
This appeal has come from Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Barbados, Nikolay Smirnov during a courtesy call yesterday on Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Steve Blackett, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade on Culloden Road, St. Michael.
The Envoy, who resides in Guyana, described Barbados as "an attractive and hospitable island", adding that several Russians visited this country by cruise or for short-term holiday annually.??
Indicating that there was an increase in the number of Russians travelling, Ambassador Smirnov pointed out that Cuba and the Dominican Republic were some of the islands in the region that Russians traditionally visited.??
The Acting Foreign Affairs Minister thanked the diplomat for his accolades and stated that Barbados was looking forward to "concretise its excellent relations with Russia."
Matters of energy, cultural exchanges, trade and the possibility of establishing a double taxation agreement between the two countries were also discussed.??
Mr. Smirnov is also non-resident Ambassador to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, Guyana and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
