International Business Minister, Donville Inniss continues to promote Barbados as a transparent treaty-based jurisdiction for Canadians to invest in.
He took the opportunity last week to make this known while in Ottawa, Canada, at a meeting where he met with the Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance, Ted Menzies.
Minister Inniss, who was in Canada as part of a promotional tour with Invest Barbados, told Minister Menzies that he recognised and valued Barbados’ relationship with Canada.
"It was a case where I would have recognised the deep and genuine friendship that the two countries cultivated over the years, as well as the contribution that Canada has continually been making to the development of Barbados," he said.
The Business Minister, who reiterated that the island has always and continues to be the domicile of choice for Canadians who want to expand their business globally, added that Canada accrues benefits from such Barbadian entities.
While describing the meeting as "fruitful", the government official hinted that one of the talking points of their discussion was the establishment of a joint technical team between Canada and Barbados to address issues related to international business and the international services sector.
Acknowledging that his trip was a productive one from the standpoint of getting the message across to potential investors and advisors, as well as successfully meeting with the Canadian Government, Minister Inniss gave the assurance that Barbados would ???up’ its presence in Canada.
He also added that with the upcoming G8 meeting in Ireland, this country would be seeking to ensure that the position of a small open economy like Barbados is heard.??
