The Barbados Water Authority (BWA) will be hosting a series of virtual Town Hall Meetings on the 2020 Water Protection & Land Use Zoning Policy tomorrow, Tuesday, February ‎9, Thursday, February 11 and Tuesday, February 16, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.

The meetings are to discuss the planned adoption of the 2020 Water Protection and Land Use Zoning Policy and will include representatives of the Environmental Protection Department, Ministry of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Agriculture, Town & Country Planning Department, the Coastal Zone Management Unit, Ministry of the Environment, Ministry of Health and Wellness and the BWA.

The Town Hall Meetings follow the publication of a Green Paper on the 2020 Water Protection and Land Use Zoning Policy in June 2020.

This paper describes the existing groundwater protection zoning policy, outlines its strengths and shortcomings and proposes a new integrated approach to protection of all the island’s water resources, including coastal waters.

The 2020 Water Protection & Land Use Zoning Policy may be viewed online on the websites of the Barbados Government Information Service (BGIS), Ministry of Energy and the BWA.
