Barbados currently has three months of supplies and has put measures in place to have a continuous rolling stock.

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley gave this assurance today during an interview at Ilaro Court on Barbados’ response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Noting that Minister of Small Business, Entrepreneurship and Commerce, Dwight Sutherland, had presented a paper to Cabinet last Thursday on the current stock levels on a variety of items, including food and pharmaceuticals, she revealed that she had also had talks with President of the Barbados Chamber of Commerce last Friday.

The PM Mottley stated: “We are pretty much good with most of the items for three months.  And what we’ve asked is that we keep a rolling stock of three months all the time because we recognize that once we get deeper into the hurricane season, a combination of the hurricane season as well as the COVID-19, disruption of supplies and logistics can put us in a difficult situation.”

The PM also highlighted that Barbados had taken the decision to bring 750 acres of land back into agricultural production almost immediately to produce short-term crops, that is, crops that take six to 12 weeks to cultivate.
