The relations that have existed between Barbados and the United Kingdom (UK) will continue to grow.

This point was underscored by Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, Chris Sinckler, as he met with British High Commissioner, Paul Brummell, at Government Headquarters.

Mr. Sinckler said the two countries had enjoyed a very long and extensive relationship which was mutually beneficial. Speaking about fiscal matters, the Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs added that as a result of the global recession and its impact on the domestic economy, Government had introduced a number of measures to help the economy return to some level of growth.

In terms of business development, he pointed out that it was important for businesses to understand that government was not only there to provide concessions, but to facilitate growth.

Turning to the international arena, the Finance Minister suggested that these institutions needed to have a more acute sense of what the region’s needs were likely to be.

The UK envoy congratulated Mr. Sinckler on his financial services measures and reiterated about his government’s commitment to Barbados and the region.

The wide-ranging discussions also focused on trade and environmental matters.??clashley@barbados.gov.bb
