Deputy Principal and teacher educator at Erdiston Teachers??? Training College (ETTC) Dr. Patricia Saul, who has considerable experience in primary, secondary and tertiary institutions, will facilitate the first session of Teaching Reading Made Simple, on Saturday, March 21, at the ETTC, Pine Hill, St. Michael.

It begins at 9:00 a.m.??Teaching Reading Made Simple is a course in the basics of teaching reading, organised by the Barbados Association of Reading (BAR), and geared towards parents, teachers and reading volunteers.

It was started last year as a community outreach activity, and saw over 170 people registered from all walks of life.??

The course is the brainchild of Irisdene Small, a library assistant at the Graydon Sealy School and a member of BAR. Dr. Patricia Saul will speak on The Reading Process, Language Rich Environment ??? Oral, and Language, Conversation, and Story Book Reading.

In encouraging persons to register, she said: ???We will examine closely what is reading, and the importance of conversation, story books and more particularly, how the environment in which the child is reared primes that child for the development of reading, so parents and caregivers should come out.???
