With preparations for Agrofest 2012 already under way, the Barbados Agricultural Society (BAS) will host a livestock seminar later this month to better prepare farmers for competition.

It will be held on Wednesday, July 27, at the Dining Club, Building No. 11, Newton Industrial Estate, Newton, Christ Church at 9:30 a.m. The seminar will target farmers who take part in the livestock Show at Agrofest and highlight, among other things, the preparation and handling of animals for showing and competition.

Facilitating the workshop will be Dr. Fred Homeyer, an International Livestock Judge, who has judged those shows over the last two years.?? Additionally, there will be presentations by Gerry Thomas, retired Agriculturalist from the Ministry of Agriculture and Adrian Hunte, who specialises in Livestock Extension and Research.??

Mr. Hunte has worked with the United States Federal Government teaching farmers how to make their enterprises profitable.????

The livestock shows have continued to be among the most popular events of the annual exhibition and it is the intention of the Agrofest committee to further improve on the quality of this exhibit and the livestock competitions.

Further information on the seminar may be obtained by contacting the Barbados Agricultural Society, "The Grotto", Beckles Road, St. Michael at 435-8098, 436-6683/84 or by fax number 435-0651.
