Students and teachers of Bay Primary got a special history lesson on Wednesday when they toured the Barbados Government Information Service (BGIS) on Bay Street.

The pupils, who were visiting the 55th anniversary black and white photographic exhibition, were excited to discover that the department once housed the old Bay Street Boys??? School.

The Bay Street Boys??? School started in October 1913, emerging out of the amalgamation of four small schools ??? St. Ambrose Boys???, St. Paul???s Boys???, Dalkeith Boys??? and Bethel Boys???.

Chief Information Officer (Ag), Sharon Lynch, who conducted the tour, gave the students a brief history of the department and explained its role in the presentation of government???s information.

Officers from the press, radio and television sections also took a break from their daily duties to speak to the pupils about how they functioned in their respective areas.

The Barbados Government Information Service celebrated its 55th anniversary from November 3 to 9, with a week of activities. Among the events held was a black and white photographic exhibition, which due to its popularity, has been held over until tomorrow, November 15.
