The Division of Fine Arts of the Barbados Community College’s (BCC) PORTFOLIO 2011 will start on Wednesday, April 27, at the Frank Collymore Hall at 8.00 p.m., with Music27 Journeys to Stardom, and culminate with Theatre Portfolio’s Antigone on May 8, at 7:00 p.m.

PORTFOLIO 2011 will feature an entire month of performances and exhibitions in which 104 graduating students will showcase their talents. Dance students will present their Epic Journeys at the Frank Collymore Hall on April 30, at 8:00 p.m.

Students from the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) programmes in Graphic Design will host their exhibition Design Army at the Grand Salle, Tom Adams Financial Centre on May 3, at 7:00 p.m., while in-house exhibitions of the Associate Degree in Fashion, Visual Arts and the BFA Studio Art will open at the Morningside Gallery on May 5, at 7:00 p.m.

According to Director of the Barbados Museum and Historical Society, Alissandra Cummins, "these performances and exhibitions always have the effect of impressing and entertaining their various audiences". She said: "The level of professionalism and creativity which have become the norm are evident. But what makes the events particularly exciting, is the anticipation with which we welcome the emergence of the newest talents in Barbados.

"They are the culmination of a concerted period of study and growth; an incubation period. In addition to the ‘entertainment factor’, there is the realisation that we are witnessing a revelation – the cultural landscape of the future and we can recognise the significant part we play by supporting and celebrating this."

Tickets for music, dance and theatre can be obtained from the University of the West Indies Book Shop, BCC Book Source, A & B and Pro Photo (Sheraton Centre Mall).?? Exhibitions are free to the general public from 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
