“Set clear goals and do your best to achieve them.” This was the advice of former Prime Minister, Sir Lloyd Erskine Sandiford, at the recent launch of the Barbados Community College’s Alumni Association (BCCAA).

Sir Lloyd, who is also patron of the BCCAA, told the gathering of tutors and former students at the BCC’s PomMarine Hotel that “it is time that we have clear goals and a forward thinking spirit”.

Describing the occasion of the College’s 40th anniversary as an “appropriate time for the launch of an alumni association”, Sir Lloyd urged the BCCAA to fully support the College.

“Let’s do something to enable students to improve their chances for success at this noble institution. Set goals and stick to them,” he advised.

Reflecting on the “early days” of the College, including its first graduation ceremony in 1970, Sir Lloyd stated that “while there were doubts about the creation of the institution, the success of the BCC is testimony to the emptiness of these criticisms”.

He added that the BCC must now seek to become a world class institution. “As long as we all work together, the College will continue to excel as we strive towards continued development,” he said.

Meanwhile, Principal of the BCC, Dr. Gladstone Best, urged the alumni to “use their knowledge to improve their community. Help us to continue to build and develop the College. There are a number of projects that I would like to see the alumni involved in as we seek to move forward,” he stated.
