(BCC)

Students of the Barbados Community College’s (BCC) Theatre Arts Department will present: De Tempest, on Saturday, April 29, and Sunday, April 30, at the BCC’s Performing Arts Hall, “The Eyrie”, Howell’s Cross Road, St. Michael.

Revised and directed by Coordinator of the BCC’s Associate Degree Programme in Theatre Arts, Michelle Cox, the production is an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s play The Tempest.

It is the students’ final examination, and seeks to provide them with a real life experience within the realm of theatre, both in performance and technical theater. It will run at 7:00 p.m. each night and there will be an admission fee.

According to the BCC, De Tempest is a story that speaks to “the subversiveness of our people” and to our “ability to overcome the unwanted masters through cunningness and disguise, as is characteristic of the masquerade culture which is pervasive throughout our region”.

Patrons may obtain tickets from A&B Music Supplies, Sheraton Centre; Cave Shepherd, Broad Street; Esso, Oistins; and BCC’s Book Source. Tickets will also be sold at the door, and can be reserved by emailing theatrearts@bcc.edu.bb. The play is recommended for the general audience.

For further information, members of the public may contact Alicia Edwards at 548-7110 or 842-8124; or email treliah@hotmail.com or theatrearts@bcc.edu.bb.
