Some 1, 648 degrees, diplomas and certificates will be conferred on students across a range of disciplines this Saturday, November 10, when the Barbados Community College (BCC) holds its 39th graduation ceremony at the Wildey Gymnasium, Garfield Sobers Sports Complex, Wildey, St. Michael.

These include social work, psychology, mass communication, hospitality studies, travel and tourism, culinary arts, physical education, general nursing, medical laboratory technology, architectural studies, land surveying, music, theatre arts, business studies, finance and investment, public sector management and police training certificates.

Two hundred and seven students will graduate with the Associate Degree in Arts; 54 with Associate Degrees in Science; 234 in Applied Arts and 338 in Applied Science. There will also be the award of 748 BCC certificates.??

The college will also confer one post graduate diploma, 20 Bachelor degrees and 46 Post Associate Degree Diplomas from its higher degree programmes. Results at the level of the Bachelors programme show that there was one First Class Honours, four Upper Second Class Honours and 11 Lower Second Class Honours.

With respect to the Associate Degree category, 28 Distinctions and 62 credits will also be bestowed on graduands.

The graduation starts at 5:00 p.m. and will be held under the theme You Always Pass Failure on the Way to Success.

Dr Cardinal Warde, Professor of Electrical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) will deliver the feature address.?? Dr Warde, who is versed in the area of entrepreneurship, founded Optron Systems, Inc. in 1982 and co-founded Radiant Images, Inc. in 1999. He has also served as Faculty Director of MIT’S MITES Programme.

The MIT Professor holds a Bachelor’s degree in Physics (with high honours) from the Stevens Institute of Technology and an M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees in Physics from Yale?? University.
