Running enthusiasts will get the opportunity to show off their athleticism when the Barbados Defence Force (BDF) joins International Military Sports Council (CISM) member territories around the world, in observing CISM Day Run, on Sunday, February 19.

The run begins at 5:30 a.m. from the Barbados Coast Guard’s HMBS Pelican Headquarters on Spring Garden and will proceed along Fontabelle, Jubilee Gardens, Broad Street, Bay Street and finish at the BDF’s St. Ann’s Fort, Headquarters.

The objectives of the run are to assist with the marketing and promotion of CISM; promote sports in the military; establish and sustain relationships with other armed forces, sports federations and civilian organisations and to contribute to the BDF’s public relations image as it relates to attracting potential recruits.

This year’s run is expected to attract participants from the Barbados Regiment, the Barbados Cadet Corps, Barbados Youth Service, Barbados Prison Service, Customs and Excise Department, Government Security Guards, the Royal Barbados Police Force and sporting associations.

CISM Day Run is held in recognition of the Council’s formation on February, 18, 1948.?? It is designed to promote of sports in the military and to bring sports federations and international institutions in contact with the armed forces.

Members of the public are encouraged to come out and cheer on the runners in their quest to promote world peace.
