Running enthusiasts will get the opportunity to show off their athleticism when the Barbados Defence Force (BDF) joins the International Military Sports Council (CISM) member territories around the world, in observing CISM Day Run, on Sunday, February, 20.
The run begins at 5:30 a.m, at the Barbados Coast Guard Headquarters on Spring Garden, and will proceed along Kensington, Fontabelle, Cheapside, Lower Broad Street, Broad Street, Bridge Street, Probyn Street, Lower Bay Street, Jemmotts Lane, Bay Street and finish at the BDF’s St. Ann’s Fort, Headquarters.?? Participants can run at their own pace and will receive CISM certificates of participation.
This year’s run is expected to attract close to 400 persons drawn from the Barbados Cadet Corps, Barbados Prison Service, The Royal Barbados Police Force, The Barbados Youth Service, Government Security Guards, The Immigration Department, the Customs and Excise Department and affiliate national associations of the Barbados Olympic Association.
Last year, the BDF participated in the world-wide event for the first time since the race’s inception in 2006. At the time, some 230 soldiers, drawn from the Barbados Regiment regular and reserve troops, the Barbados Coast Guard and the Barbados Defence Force Sports Programme competed.
CISM Day Run, is held in recognition of the Council’s formation on February, 18, 1948.?? It is designed to promote the practice of sports in the military and to bring sports federations and international institutions in contact with the armed forces.
Members of the public are encouraged to come out and cheer on the runners in their quest to promote world peace.??
