The public will get a closer insight into the critical role of the Barbados Defence Force (BDF) in promoting public safety when the organisation, along with the HIV committee, hosts its 32nd Anniversary Open Day next week.

Under the theme, Stigma and Discrimination: Embracing all in the Pursuit of Excellence, it will be held on Friday, August 19, at the BDF’s St. Ann’s Fort, Garrison, St. Michael headquarters, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

During the day, the public will get an insight into the various career options available within the BDF.?? There will also be physical training and drill displays, rappelling, BDF band renditions, firefighting control and a sunset ceremony.??

Free breast screenings tests for the first 50 ladies, prostate specific antigen (PSA), cholesterol and blood sugar tests for the first 100 patrons and free blood pressure checks will also be available.

Visitors will also be treated to basic life support demonstrations and voluntary counselling and testing.?? Patrons will also be treated to a dance display compliments Savannah Steppers and there will be a jumping tent for children.

Donations of canned food items for the HIV food bank will be accepted.
