From tomorrow, May 15, Barbados will have a new Fire Chief.

He is 56-year-old career fire officer Wilfred Decourcey Marshall, a Station Officer, who has been acting as a Divisional Officer since August, last year.

After 35 years in the Barbados Fire Service, Mr. Marshall was today presented with his instrument of appointment from the Personnel Administration Division.

He has benefitted from extensive job-specific training from West Indian and English universities, as well as other American and Barbadian academic institutions.

Mr. Marshall, a graduate of the now defunct, Federal High School, rose to achieve Certificates in International Disaster Management, from Bournemouth University, England; Public Administration, University of the West Indies, Cave Hill, and Executive Analysis of Fire Service Operations in Emergency Management, from the National Fire Academy of the United States.

Chief Fire Officer Marshall’s climb to the top of the ladder included recent stops on the rungs of command of the Fire Service Central Division, and the Fire Prevention and Community Relations Unit, combining a two-year stint between the two posts.

Mr. Marshall, who is married with three children, was awarded the Barbados Service Medal in 1991 and 2006 and received the International Association of Black Professional Fire Fighters (IABPFF) award in recognition of outstanding service for the Caribbean Region in 2000.
