A public awareness exercise on the causes and effects of marine litter will be conducted by the Environmental Protection Department (EPD),on Morgan Lewis Beach, next Saturday, September 20.

According to Senior Marine Pollution Officer, Ingrid Levine, this exercise will take the form of a beach clean-up by EPD staff and volunteers, as part of its Marine Litter Project. She said “The EPD is developing a national marine litter monitoring programme to provide information on the types and amounts of trash found on each beach.” Ms. Levine added that “everyone is invited to participate, and a special invitation is extended to residents of the Shorey Village Community”.

Persons interested in volunteering are encouraged to register with the EPD, by contacting a Marine Pollution Officer at 310-3620/1/2/3, on or before September 12.

Refreshments will be provided and transportation will be organised to take volunteers to and from the clean up point. A bus will leave the EPD, NUPW Complex, on Dalkeith Road, at 6:00 a.m., on Saturday, September 20. Persons with their own transportation are asked to assemble at the Conrad Hunte Sports Club car park in Shorey Village, St. Andrew, for 6:30 a.m.
