The Harrison Point Isolation Facility in St. Lucy recently received a generous donation from the Barbados Entrepreneurship and Tourism Association (BETA).

After hearing about the incidents of theft at the facility, the association sprang into action by collecting donations from members and friends to help replenish and replace some of the stolen items.

They presented Manager of Isolation Facilities, Dr. Corey Forde, with 12 twin bedsheet sets; 25 pillows; 408 16-ounce bottles of Glacier Pure water; and six 43-inch West Point smart televisions.

“When our association of 90 strong property owners and property managers heard of the challenges being faced by Harrison Point, we were deeply moved to mobilise and assist our valued local community and visitors to our island, who are and will become clients of the facility,” the association outlined in a release.

For the kind gesture, Dr. Forde thanked BETA, which aims at building a “dynamic and resilient” community among persons engaged in the shared-economy and accommodation sector in the tourism and hospitality industry in Barbados.

“The Board and management of the QEH (Queen Elizabeth Hospital) and medical staff of the isolation facilities would like to express our sincere thanks for these tremendous donations during these difficult and unprecedented times in Barbados. These donations will go an extremely long way in improving patient comfort and also aid in improving the mental status of patients. We are eternally grateful, given our recent challenges, and encourage Barbadians to respect the new devices and contributions while continuing to contribute towards the fight of COVID-19,” he stated.

BETA said it intended to continue contributing “through advocacy and affirmative action to ensure the resilience of the tourism industry”.

“We will, therefore, continue to work hand-in-hand with our community to always offer hospitality and enhance local and visitor experiences. BETA deeply appreciates the hard work of the Government, in conjunction with the Ministry of Health and Wellness, BAMP (Barbados Association of Medical Practitioners) and all frontline workers to stem the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. We wish to thank our members, friends of members and our sponsors, without whom these donations would not have been made possible,” BETA stated.
