Minister of Education and Human Resource Development Ronald Jones, greets UNESCO’s Director and Representative for the Caribbean, Dr. Kwame Boafo,??at the Ministry.??

The Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development will soon have an upgraded secretariat dedicated to matters related to the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).

And, according to Minister of Education and Human Resource Development Ronald Jones, the staffing complement in that department of the Ministry will be increased to facilitate the work of that international organisation.????

He made this disclosed during a meeting with UNESCO’s Director and Representative for the Caribbean, Dr. Kwame Boafo, yesterday, at the Ministry’s Constitution Road headquarters.

Dr. Boafo expressed pleasure that the current secretariat would be strengthened, noting that this would place the Ministry in a better position to access technical assistance and other benefits from his organisation.??

There was also discussion on the Memory of the World Programme (MoW), which was established to "guard against collective amnesia and ensure that there is universal access to the documentary heritage of the world regardless of its format".?? Dr. Boafo informed Minister Jones that committee members of the MoW Programme were meeting in Barbados from July 27 to 31 and were considering several submissions from the Caribbean for possible inscription to the International Register of MoW in 2011.

Discussions also focused on Barbados’ participation in the upcoming UNESCO General Conference, which will be held later this year from October 6 to 23 in Paris.??
