As the Barbados Government Information Service (BGIS) winds down its year-long 50th anniversary celebrations, this special occasion will culminate with a week of activities which runs from December 7 to 13.

Under the theme “Disseminating Information Cultivating Change”, the week will start on Sunday with divine worship at St. Matthias Anglican Church, beginning at 8:45 a.m.

The following day, Monday, December 8, staff members will unveil Building Signage for the BGIS at 10:00 a.m.

Come Tuesday, December 9, the BGIS will continue its outreach programme, “Making a Difference Day – GIS Cares” – with a presentation of equipment by Chief Information Officer (Ag) Erskine Callender to the Geriatric Hospital, Beckles Road, at 10:00 a.m.

On Wednesday, December 10, it will be Staff Appreciation Day, when members of staff will be treated to Health Checks and a Luncheon; this event starts at 9:00 a.m.

Activities will continue with another “Making a Difference Day – GIS Cares” on Thursday, December 11, at 10:00 a.m. This will see BGIS donating food stuff and equipment to the YWCA Breakfast Club, Training Centre, Deacons Farm, St. Michael.
That same evening, the Bay Street Esplanade, Bay Street, St. Michael will be the venue of a Mobile Cinema presentation which gets under way at 6:30 p.m.

The week will come to a close on Saturday, December 13, with a red carpet affair as the BGIS holds its 50th Anniversary Dinner and Awards Ceremony at the Plantation Theatre, St. Lawrence Main Road, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

According to BGIS’ Marketing Officer and Coordinator of the events, Ronny Yearwood, “the BGIS is fortunate to be celebrating its Golden Anniversary and we look forward to growing from strength to strength.  We want to continue with our community outreach programmes and making a difference in the lives of Barbadians”.
