The Barbados Government Information Service (BGIS) and the United Nations’ Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Eastern Caribbean Office will, this Friday, September 16, jointly launch two competitions – an Essay and ??a Poster Competition – on The Rights of the Child, at the United Nations (UN) House, Marine Gardens, Christ Church.

The ceremony gets under way at 10:00 a.m. with Minister of Education and Human Resource Development, Ronald Jones delivering the feature address.??

In 1990, Barbados signed the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. This year marks the 21st anniversary of that signature and subsequent ratification which placed Barbados among over 190 countries in the global community which pledged to undertake national efforts towards ensuring the rights of all children.

The partnership between BGIS and UNICEF will afford Barbadian children and adolescents the opportunity to give their perspectives on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, through the competitions which have the theme: My Rights – What Child Rights Mean to Me.
