The Barbados Government Information Service (BGIS) will soon have additional resources at its disposal to ensure more people have greater access to its information.

It will officially launch its social media profiles on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram ??? and the upgraded website tomorrow, Friday, May 16, at Almond Bay, Hastings, Christ Church, beginning at 10:00 a.m.??

Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, Senator Darcy Boyce, will deliver the feature address.

Acting Chief Information Officer, Sharon Lynch, underscored the importance of using social media to ensure all Barbadians had access to vital Government information.

???In order to reach all of the demographics we had no choice but to have a social media presence… Our mandate is to disseminate Government information and to ensure people are informed and educated about what Government does, and this information is relevant to every single person,??? she contended.

Ms. Lynch said the social media platform would allow the BGIS to expand its global reach since there were many Barbadians in the diaspora who were keen to learn about developments in Barbados.

She also acknowledged that many young people heavily utilised social media and needed to receive the relevant information, and that many retired persons were becoming au fait with technology and were using social media.

The BGIS social media sites – Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram – may be accessed under the hashtag #bgisbarbados and the website may be viewed by visiting www.gisbarbados.gov.bb.
