Present and former staff members of the Barbados Government Information Service (BGIS) turned out to say farewell to three of their own recently, at a retirement function at the Clock Tower, the Historic Garrison.

The retirees, Stenographer, Melnese Williams; Senior Clerk, Gweneth Vaughan; and Driver/Operator, Cameron Layne, were employed at the BGIS for 36, 33 and 28 years, respectively.

In her tribute to the trio, Acting Chief Information Officer, Sharon Lynch, lauded their dedication to duty, and the interest they paid in the functioning of the department.

???They were members of the support staff, but they never limited themselves and said ???I???m just a typist, or I work in Accounts, or I???m a driver???. They identified with the department and were interested in all aspects of the organisation. I urge us all to follow their examples of dedication to duty,??? Ms. Lynch said.

Calling their retirement ???an end of an era???, the Acting Chief Information Officer wished the retirees well in their future endeavours, as they began a ???new phase of life???.??The outgoing employees were treated to tributes in word and song from colleagues.
