Barbadian students have shown a keen interest in the Barbados Government Information Service (BGIS) and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) sponsored poster and essay competitions which closed for entries last week.

Marketing Officer at the BGIS, Ronny Yearwood, said the competitions had generated a lot of interest among students, teachers and parents, with many Barbadians calling or visiting the offices of the BGIS at Bay Street for further details or for entry forms.

He added that 165 posters and 45 essays were received from students and the quality of work was very good.

"The response from persons entering the competitions was quite good. We had to extend the deadline another week since persons were still bringing in their entries.?? Even up to the deadline, Barbadians were still coming to the office bringing in their posters and essays," he said.

Mr. Yearwood pointed out that judging of the entries would commence shortly, with the winners to be announced later this month.
