The Barbados Investment and Development Corporation (BIDC), is putting increased emphasis on the development of the local craft sector that should lead to more employment opportunities.

To this end, its Entrepreneurial Development Division will be conducting new courses in leather craft and pottery next month for persons who want to learn a new skill.

Participants will be instructed in the basic hand techniques in pottery/ceramics, such as pinch, slab and coil.  They will also be taught how to turn strips of leather into trendy purses, hair accessories and belts.

Classes in leather craft will be held from October 13 to 23 and in Pottery from October 20 to 30 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Mondays to Thursdays at the Bagnall’s Point Gallery Annex, Pelican Craft Centre, Princess Alice Highway, St. Michael.

Persons interested in leather craft may register at the BIDC, also located on the Princess Alice Highway, St. Michael,  from next Tuesday, September 30, and for pottery from  Monday, October 6.
