"Caribbean writings are not dead!?? Caribbean writing lives on!?? Caribbean publishing is a reality and a viable creative industry!"

These declarations were made last evening by Minister of State in the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development, Patrick Todd, at the launch of the redesigned magazine, ???BIM Arts for the 21st Century’, at the Errol Barrow Centre for Creative Imagination.

According to him, the revival of the BIM periodical was another instrument for Barbadian to continue their local and Caribbean literary tradition.??

"Great literary talent has been spawned and developed here in Barbados. ??These early literary craftsmen of our fate include George Lamming and Kamau Brathwaite, Jeffrey Drayton and Frank Collymore, John Wickham, Bruce St. John, Paula Marshall and Timothy Callender.?? Their creativity, captured in indelible ink, has been an inspiration for millions in the Caribbean, throughout the diaspora and indeed throughout the world," the Minister said.

Mr. Todd also expressed his optimism that the rebirth of the journal would ignite creativity, innovation and ingenuity in our young people, and in so doing, unleash their full potential.

The Minister of State added that publications such as BIM had a key role to play in the development of our creative industry, and talents, as well as the economic exploitation of global creative sectors.
