The winner of the Blue Flame Challenge will be announced on Thursday, August 30, after three teams participate in the competition’s final round of judging.

Hosted by the Barbados Investment Development Corporation (BIDC), the Blue Flame Challenge seeks to find the best solution, through artificial intelligence technology, for the BIDC’s Bajan Connect platform. The aim of the platform is to create an effective and efficient means of marketing and exporting Barbadian products to the diaspora.

In July this year, BIDC and IBM hosted a 36-hour hackathon, after which three teams emerged victorious. Since then, the teams have refined and enhanced their “solutions”. The teams will present their solutions to the judges in the final stage of the Blue Flame Challenge.

The judging panel will be looking for creativity or the innovativeness of the solution, soundness of business concept, financial viability, scalability, design, usability and technological soundness using the IBM tools and techniques.

The winner will be announced after the presentations and also at the BIDC’s Barbados Innovation Conference later this year, when the winning team will showcase its solution. Category winners will also be presented on Thursday with prizes.
