The Barbados National Oil Company has named the 11 recipients of the BNOCL-SJPI scholarship for the 2020-21 school year.

Scholarship recipients are fulltime SJPI students, currently enrolled in in 1-year certificate or 2-year diploma programs.

The 11 scholarship recipients will each receive $1000 per academic year for a period of 1 year. 2-year diploma students have an option to apply again for 2nd year funding.

The scholarship recipients are:

Electrical Installation – Jaythan Hart, Ibriel Holder and Benjamin Bourne.

Mechanical Maintenance Engineering – Rahshon Bostic, Angenique Quintin, Jakobi Martin, Joel Allman, Azeem Baptiste and Alexander Fields.

Motor Vehicle Engineering Technology – Nathan Daniel and Shain Bascombe.

Speaking at the awards, ceremony held today at the Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology Auditorium, Shawna Clarke, Guidance Officer of SJPI told the audience that 107 applications were received over the 3-week campaign. A screening questionnaire was then used to shortlist 30 applicants for face to face interview.

Chairman of the Board of Barbados National Oil Company, Mr. Alex McDonald charged the students with care, pride, vision, industry, passion, to be the best, to make the most and to pay it back and pay it forward.

At the end of the academic year the top 2 performing scholarship recipients will receive internships at BNOCL.

The recipients all expressed their gratitude to BNOCL and SJPI for the opportunity.
