Aspiring artists in secondary schools across Barbados, are being invited to showcase their writing skills by participating in a poster competition.

The competition, which is being hosted by the Barbados National Oil Company Limited (BNOCL), will give students the opportunity to test their knowledge about alternative energy sources while displaying their creative side.

The theme of the contest is Save Energy, Save Money, with secondary themes such as Efficient Use of Energy, Sustainable Energy Use, Renewable Energy and Energy Innovation. The competition is targeting students between the ages of 11-15 and 16-19.

Each individual poster must be submitted through the contestant’s school and produced in a horizontal format, 13 inches high by 18 inches wide.?? It should contain a short text describing the theme of the poster in no more than 200 words, the entrant’s name, age, contact information and the school they attend.

Posters will be judged on their connection to the primary and secondary themes, originality, materials used, innovation and aesthetics.

The entries must be submitted no later than Friday, October 22, by 4:00 p.m.

The grand prize winner in both age groups, will receive an iPad, while the second and third prize winners will receive iPod Touch and iPod Classic multi-media devices.?? The 12 winning posters will be published in the company’s 2011 calendar and other related promotional products.
