Efforts to create development opportunities for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and the organisations which support them, continue next month.?? This is when the Barbados National Standards Institution (BNSI) and the CARICOM Regional Organisation for Standards and Quality (CROSQ) will host a Standards and Conformity Assessment Training Workshop.

The two-day workshop, which was originally slated for October last year, will be held on Monday, March 7 and Tuesday, March 8, at the Savannah Hotel. It will cater to SME business support organisations involved in banking and finance, teaching and training, management consultancy, business advisory and technical assistance services. ??The training session will seek to improve the skills set of the participants and illustrate how standards can assist SMEs in increasing their competitiveness and market access.

Issues to be addressed include the standardisation for SMEs the use of standards in a recession, the need for a Quality Management Plan and how standards and conformity assessment can help competitiveness.

For further information on the workshop, contact the BNSI at 426-3870.??
