The Barbados National Standards Institution (BNSI) is seeking the public’s views on National Building Code amendments.

To this end it will?? host its review session next Wednesday, November 17, in the Lecture Theatre (1st floor) at the Ministry of Labour, Warrens Office Complex, Warrens, St. Michael from 10:00 a.m. to noon.

Persons will be able to share their opinions on three revisions – parts 16, 17 and 18 – which address electrical installations, miscellaneous structures (e.g. kiosks, tents, swimming pools) and in-built systems (e.g. hot water supply, drainage systems). These documents are currently available for review at the National Library, Bridgetown.??

BNSI, Technical Officer, Jonathan Platt, said persons interested in the subject matter – from stakeholders to artisans are invited to participate in this process of improving local standards. He explained that the review was crucial, since it would allow the country to take stock of its evolving environment and respond accordingly:

"Requirements change as technology advances.?? This could be due to the creation of new building components or climate change, which [would require] new and innovative construction methods for the conservation of energy. It is our endeavour as BNSI to carry out a review process of standards every five years to ensure that they are current," he noted.
