The Barbados National Standards Institution (BNSI) has continued its efforts to improve national standards, with the publication of its latest document which aims to provide guidelines for a crucial product within the construction industry.

The organisation’s Draft CARICOM Regional Standard for Cement-Specification will be relevant to a range of entities, from importers and distributors to manufacturers of cement.?? The document sets out the requirements for the composition, manufacturing, sampling and testing of cement, as well as for packaging, labelling and mass tolerance for cement bags.?? It also provides users with crucial information on the expected performance requirements of the product.??

The Standard, which is expected to be implemented with mandatory effect, will serve to protect consumers and users of buildings against danger to health and safety.????

The Draft document may be viewed at the BNSI Library, Culloden Road, St. Michael or accessed and downloaded via the BNSI website at http://www.bnsi.bb/.?? Comments may be submitted via the Stakeholder Comment Form in the website’s Resource Centre or emailed to office@bnsi.com.bb . The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, June 8.

Persons who wish additional information on the Standard, may contact the BNSI at 426-3870.
