Boat owners are being urged to take immediate action in securing their vessels with the impending passage of Tropical Depression Number Seven.

Chief Fisheries Officer in the Fisheries Division of the Ministry of Agriculture, Stephen Willoughby, has urged owners of small fishing boats to remove their vessels from the water immediately as the Tropical Depression is expected to produce storm force sea conditions in less than 48 hours.

Owners of larger craft who have vessels in the water are also being advised to seek safe harbour.

The Barbados Meteorological Service reported that the centre of the system was located near 13.7 degrees North or 49.5 degrees West or about 670 miles to the East of Barbados.

It is moving towards the west at about 23 miles per hour, and the centre is expected to pass just to the north of Barbados late Saturday or early Sunday.

Predictions indicate that slow strengthening of the system is likely during the next 48 hours, and there is still the possibility of the depression becoming a tropical storm before reaching the Lesser Antilles.

The Met Office has advised that regardless of its development, the system still has the potential to generate significant showers, scattered thunderstorms and occasional gusty winds across Barbados.
