The level of regional and international success reaped by the local body building fraternity should serve to spur an extension of the Barbados Amateur Body Building and Fitness Federation’s (BABBFF) activities, to play a leading role in preserving the nation’s health.

This was the message from acting Minister of Family, Youth, Sports and Environment, Senator Irene Sandiford-Garner, over the weekend, as she addressed the Twinlab National Body Building and Fitness Championships at the Plantation Garden Theatre.

She underlined that “championships such as these often serve as a source of inspiration for many observers who are impressed by the results of the discipline, perseverance and creativity of the competitors”.

Encouragement for the BABBFF to formulate creative strategies, that would allow the nation to benefit from their expertise, came from the acting Minister. She said:  “I am certain that the National Sports Council and the Barbados Olympic Association would be receptive to proposals aimed at promoting fitness and healthy lifestyles on the island.”

Senator Sandiford-Garner gave the assurance that “the Ministry of Sports and the National Sports Council will continue to facilitate our national sporting organisations, and their efforts to be productive members who contribute to the social good”.

She expressed her anticipation of excellent results from the Barbados team, next month, at the 36th CAC Championships in the Bahamas, and the World Junior and Masters Championships in November and December, 2008.
