The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade will launch a publication entitled Some Barbadian Canadians: A Biographical Dictionary, tomorrow Friday, March 11.

It was published by the Barbados High Commission in Ottawa in collaboration with Barbadians from provinces across Canada. The book provides biographies of over 400 Barbadians who immigrated to Canada since the 19th century and whose energy, creativity and talents have made a significant contribution to all sectors of Canadian life and society.

Among the stories featured is one of a Barbadian who helped to establish a town in Ontario and another who became the first Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia. There is also an account of a Bajan who became Vancouver’s first official lifeguard and subsequently, had a drinking fountain named after him with the inscription Little children loved him.

The launch will be held at Solidarity House, Harmony Hall, St. Michael, at 6:00 p.m.?? The book has already been launched in the Canadian cities of Vancouver, Ottawa, Montreal, Winnipeg and Toronto. A second launch on Parliament Hill in Ottawa is scheduled for later this month.
