Tickets for the International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA) World Women Boxing Championships, to be held here over 10 days, will go on sale from tomorrow Saturday, September 4, at a number of box offices across the island.

Project Manager, David Reeves, said tickets could be purchased from all Super Centre supermarkets, except Warrens; Line and Length Barber Shops at Sheraton and Tudor Street, the Wildey Gymnasium, and Eddies Trading in Speightstown.

Tickets for the preliminary bouts are $10, those for the quarter finals and semifinals will cost $20, while those for the finals will be priced at $30. Children’s tickets will only be offered for the preliminaries and quarter finals at $5 each.

Meanwhile, season tickets will also be available at $120 each, and the public is being encouraged to buy theirs early.

The championships will be held here from next Thursday, September 9, to Saturday, September 18, at the Wildey Gymnasium. Close to 1,500 people, including over 700 boxers from 85 countries, are expected to come to Barbados for the competition.

Forty-five women from 39 countries are now here participating in AIBA’s Road to Barbados Programme, which is an intense two-week training workshop for boxers from lesser developed countries who were unable to finance their travel to these shores. saustin@barbados.gov.bb
