For the next five Saturdays, taxpayers can receive free assistance with filing their income tax returns, when the Barbados Revenue Authority (BRA) hosts a series of tax clinics at Community Resource Centres around the island.

Communications Officer at the BRA, Erica Lazare, said the tax clinics will be held at several centres each week, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m.

“Six resource centres across the island are being used to host the tax clinics and all but one centre will be visited twice during the period. We are now in the income tax filing season, so we are encouraging persons to take advantage of this weekend option to get help with their filing, whether they have forgotten their passwords and email addresses, or are simply not sure how to file their return correctly,” she explained.

This Saturday, April 1, the BRA will be at the Deacons and Parkinson, St. Michael; and Rices, St. Philip resource centres, followed by a visit to the Briar Hall, Christ Church and Valley, St. George centres on Saturday, April 8.

Taxpayers will be able to receive assistance on Saturday, April 15, at the Weston, St. James and Deacons, St. Michael centres; and on Saturday, April 22 once again at Parkinson and Rices. The final clinics will be held at the Briar Hall and Valley resource centres on Saturday, April 29.

Ms. Lazare explained that the tax clinics are part of the Authority’s thrust to engage directly with taxpayers.

“These clinics are part of an overall outreach and education drive by the Authority to help taxpayers better understand their obligations, facilitate compliance and garner feedback. We started outreach sessions from last year and we have been actively engaging several groups, agencies and sectors on a regular basis,” she said.
