During the meeting at Government Headquarters at Bay Street on Monday, the Prime Minister said both countries would benefit from deeper relations with the introduction of GOL Airlines, direct service from Bridgetown to Sao Paulo.

Regarding the still to be concluded double taxation treaty, Ambassador Chofi gave an undertaking that it will be tackled by the new congress since "it is important to have it [double taxation treaty] so that both countries can benefit."

When asked about Brazil’s sugar industry, the Ambassador said the industry was fully mechanised and the conversion of sugar to ethanol was widespread.

Brazil’s Ambassador to Barbados, Claudio Appio Acquarone, who was also in attendance, disclosed that negotiations were ongoing with the private sector to establish an ethanol plant here.
