Outgoing Brazilian Ambassador, Appio Claudio Acquarone, has described the deepening of ties with Barbados through various areas of cooperation as the highlight of his tour of duty.

Speaking during a farewell call on the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Maxine McClean, recently, the Ambassador said he was pleased with the bilateral relationship which spanned more than four decades.

In turn, Senator McClean said Barbados had been able to achieve a number of important things during Ambassador Acquarone???s tenure. These included the establishment of an Embassy in Brazil and a trade and commercial mission to that country.

Ambassador Acquarone underscored the importance of trade to a country???s development and added: ???I was happy to have helped with identifying something here in Barbados that would also interest us in establishing a balanced relationship.???

The two officials also discussed airlift, business opportunities for entertainers and other entrepreneurs, investment opportunities and negotiations on a double taxation treaty.

Barbados and Brazil established diplomatic ties in 1971.
