The Barbados Tourism Investment Inc. (BTII) wishes to inform the public that the redevelopment of The City under the Bridgetown Transformation Project will commence this Monday, January 6, with preparatory work.

The first phase of this project will be the construction of the Golden Square Freedom Park and the completion of the Fairchild Street Market Village.

The initial work for the park will entail the demolition of the former National Insurance Building on Fairchild Street, the Barbados Fire Service Station at Probyn Street and the nearby temporary markets.

In the coming weeks, contractors will be removing the contents from these buildings and erecting hoarding around the intended construction site. Subsequently, the demolition process of these structures will commence in the safest possible manner.

As work progresses, vendors, motorists, pedestrians, commuters and businesses, who maybe temporarily affected, will be kept abreast every step of the way via the Barbados Government Information Service, social media and credible news outlets.

Additionally, public relations personnel will be deployed to the area and a hotline number will be established to address any concerns.

The Bridgetown Transformation Project is being executed by the BTII, while Vision Development Inc. and C.O. Williams Construction have been contracted to carry out the construction work.

BTII would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding and ask that they bear with them as they seek to improve and transform the City of Bridgetown.
