Officers from the Barbados Statistical Service (BSS) receiving advice from Barbados Family Planning Association official, Rosemary White, during the BSS’ health awareness day on??Monday.????

Scores of Barbadians took advantage of free health checks today during the Barbados Statistical Services’ (BSS) health awareness day.

It was staged as one of the events to mark statistics week and was held on the ground floor of the old National Insurance Building, Fairchild Street, the City, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.?? Barbadians were able to get free blood sugar, cholesterol and body mass index tests, administered by health practitioners from the Barbados Nurses’ Association.

Other activities on the calendar will include an Advocacy Forum on Statistics to be held tomorrow, Tuesday, October 13, at the Grand Salle, Tom Adams Financial Centre, starting at 9:00 a.m. Speakers will include Minister of Economic Affairs, Empowerment, Innovation, Trade, Industry and Commerce, Dr. David Estwick, and the Governor Designate of the Central Bank, Dr. Delisle Worrell.

On Wednesday, October 14, there will be presentations to staff on Pensions and Gratuities and Kidney Disease, starting at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. respectively, at the BSS’ headquarters.

In observance of Caribbean Statistics Day, on Thursday, October 15, Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors to the Government of Barbados, Dr. Frank Alleyne, will give a presentation on the Importance of Statistics. It will take place at the BSS, starting at 10:00 a.m.?? At 2:00 p.m on the same day, Dematologist, Dr. Suleman Bhamjee, will speak on the subject of Dermatology, also at that location.

There will be an in-house seminar on the Household Budget Survey and the 2010 Population Housing Census at the BSS, on Friday, October 16.

A dinner and awards ceremony will be staged on Saturday, October 17, at the Dining Club, Building 11, Newton Industrial Park, Christ Church.?? It will get underway at 6:30 p.m. and will bring the curtain down on the organistion’s events.
