The Barbados Statistical Service (BSS) will be launching a public awareness programme, to educate the public about the upcoming 2010 Population and Housing Census.

Word of this has come from Director of the BSS, Angela Hunte, as she addressed the organisation’s awards ceremony and cocktail reception at the Dining Club, Newton Industrial Estate, Christ Church, recently. The investigation will be conducted by enumerators from the department for approximately six weeks in May 2010.

Describing surveys as the most comprehensive exercise for a national statistical service, she said the public must be kept abreast of what the exercise entails.

"We need to ensure that all of our stakeholders are well informed about what it entails.?? Thus, we will be mounting an awareness campaign to educate the general public in the near future," Ms. Hunte added.

The examination is designed to assess the changes to the Barbadian population and housing landscape since 2000, when the last Census was carried out by the BSS. At the end of this exercise, the data collected will determine the implementation and evaluation of its social and economic programmes.
