The Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI) has announced the appointment of a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and four new global directors.

Hotelier, William Griffith, has been named the Chief Executive Officer and assumed that role from Monday, October 13.

An industry veteran, Mr. Griffith brings his vast experience back to Barbados, having been a member of the leadership team in a number of hotel properties in Bermuda.

Most recently, Mr. Griffith led the Bermuda Department of Tourism as its Director of Tourism ??? a position he held for six years.

As part of his duties, the new BTMI CEO was responsible for the direction and management of all operations within the organisation, including overseeing offices in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Italy and Germany.

Mr. Griffith has an honours degree in Hotel Management from the University of the West Indies, and was a senior manager with Sandy Lane Hotel. He then moved to Bermuda to assume the position as President of the Bermuda Resort Hotels and manage the operations of four hotels in the group.

The CEO also served in several capacities in the tourism sector in Bermuda, including President of the Hotel Association, Chairman of the Bermuda Alliance for Tourism, as well as sitting on the Boards of the Bermuda College and the Government Golf Courses.

Mr. Griffith was voted Bermuda???s Hotelier of the Year in 1997, and was also one of nine Barbadian residents in Bermuda specially honoured for outstanding achievement at the 30th Anniversary Independence Banquet of the Barbados Association of Bermuda.

Meanwhile, the four new global directors appointed to the BTMI are: former interim CEO Petra Roach, who will now be the Director USA; Cheryl Carter, the new Director for the United Kingdom; Peter Mayers, the BTMI???s director for Canada; and Vicky Chandler, the BTMI???s Director for its Caribbean and Latin American regions.

Chairman of the BTMI, Alvin Jemmott, said the new CEO and the team of global directors would ???work together to create a bold new organisation focused on keeping the island [at the top] in the dynamic and ever-changing tourism industry???.

He further stated: ???The extensive experience and skills these individuals possess will help us to fulfil our goal of driving island tourism and increasing destination awareness. We look forward to welcoming them to their new roles for Barbados.???
