Barbadians are being encouraged to take advantage of the upcoming opportunity to visit several local museums and learn more about this island’s history.

In celebration of International Museum Day, on May 18, the Barbados Museum and the National Committee of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) will be hosting a bus tour on Thursday, May 17.

The all-day excursion will leave the Barbados Museum, St. Ann’s Garrison, St. Michael at 9:00 a.m., and there will be stops at the Museum of Parliament and National Heroes Gallery, the Nidhe Israel Museum, and the Folkestone Marine Museum.

For additional information on the tour, including its cost, the public should call Allison Callender at 427-0201/228-4392 or visit the ICOM Barbados Facebook page.

The theme of this year’s International Museum Day is Museums in a Changing World: New Challenges, New Inspirations. It is hoped that those who operate museums and visitors to them will spend some time thinking about the role of museums in the society in this era of numerous changes.

ICOM is the global organisation of museum professionals who are committed to the conservation, continuation and communication of the world’s natural and cultural heritage, present and future, as well as tangible and intangible.
