The Ministry of Housing and Lands will shortly complete drafting of an agreement to lease the Bushy Park Facility to the Barbados Motoring Federation and the document will then be presented to Cabinet for its consideration.

This disclosure came yesterday from Minister of Sports, Stephen Lashley, as he addressed the 2011 Williams Digicel International Race Meet and 40th Anniversary Celebrations of the Bushy Park Racing Circuit at Bushy Park, St. Philip.

Mr. Lashley said Government was aware of the attractiveness of motor sports and its immense contribution to economies worldwide. "This facility at Bushy Park offers an excellent prototype for multi-usage where we can combine motor racing of varying types with cultural programmes including Crop Over and other forms of entertainment.

"We are, therefore, moving expeditiously to empower the Barbados Motoring Federation to re-develop this circuit into a Formula Three Facility. This will certainly attract the hosting of bigger and more exciting racing meets in Barbados, in keeping with the Government’s policy to enhance sports tourism," he stated.

Stressing there was a need for the Federation and the National Cultural Foundation to work closely, Mr. Lashley suggested that racing meets could feature cultural segments which would offer artistes an opportunity to entertain the large crowds at Bushy Park.

The Minister reiterated that in order to promote the island’s attractiveness, Government was committed to allowing duty-free concessions for the temporary importation of equipment, gear and vehicles for competitions in Barbados.
